CFTM dyes are a series of superior fluorescent dyes that have set a new standard in fluorescent labeling technology. Developed by scientists at Biotium, these dyes are particularly developed for labeling antibodies. They represent a major improvement over the Alexa ® Fluor dyes and other competing dyes by providing advantages in all aspects of fluorescent antibody labeling.

For most fluorescence-based biological detections, a dye that is merely bright is often insufficient; frequently, other physical, chemical and biological aspects of the dye, such as photostability, specificity, reactivity ( i.e ., labeling efficiency) and chemical stability, are also important, or even more essential in some cases. For in vivo imaging, a dye must meet even more stringent requirements so that labeled proteins may become less immunogenic and thus longer-lasting in the animal's body. Scientists at Biotium are keenly aware of these challenges. Thus, we have developed a novel approach to engineer fluorescent dyes so that all aspects of the dyes are improved. We believe that CFTM dyes are the only fluorescent dyes that offer advantages in all of the following areas:

•  Brightness

CFTM dyes match or surpass the brightness of Alexa ® Fluor dyes.

•  Specificity

Unlike Alexa ® Fluor dyes, CFTM dyes do not significantly change the isoelectric points (IP) of antibodies upon conjugation. Thus, CFTM -labeled antibodies are more specific, without the need of any blocking agents.

•  Photostability

CFTM dyes are among the most photostable dyes.

•  In vivo Application

CFTM dyes, particularly near IR CFTM dyes, possess novel features that make the dyes less immunogenic than Alexa ® Fluor dyes and other similar dyes. Thus, CFTM -labeled antibodies are expected to have a longer half-life in in-vivo applications.

•  Reactivity and Labeling Efficiency

CFTM succinimidyl ester dyes routinely have reactivity well above 90% and an antibody labeling efficiency as high as 40-50%, both of which are unmatched by Alexa ® Fluor dyes and other similar competing dyes. This means that for a similar price you get a far better value with CFTM dyes.

•  pH Insensitivity

CFTM dyes remain highly fluorescent over a wide pH range (4~11).

•  Solubility

CFTM dyes are highly soluble in water and a large number of organic solvents.

•  Compatibility

CFTM dyes are compatible with common excitation sources and existing filters.

•  Color Selection

The CFTM series encompasses dyes with wavelengths spanning the entire visible spectrum and the near IR region.
